What good is it for a man to gain
the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?
—Mark 8:36
One of the temptations Satan threw at Jesus was this: showing him all the kingdoms of the world, he said, “I will give it all to you if you will bow down and worship me.”
And one of the questions Jesus threw at us was this: “What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul” (ESV).
What if you could have it all: possessions, power, pleasure, position—the whole world.
Jesus reduced it to a question of profit and loss . . .
On the credit side of the ledger, “the whole world”; on the debit side, “your soul.”
We would do well to measure by that formula when doing our estate planning.
Use God’s math when
calculating value.
