Go now and leave your life of sin.
—John 8:11
“Adulteress!” they shrieked. “The Law says to stone her. What do you say Jesus?”
What did he say? “If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone” (Jn 8:7).
What did he do? He neither condoned nor condemned.
He didn’t condone her conduct; he called it what it was—sin. He loved her too much to endorse her self-destructive behavior in the name of compassion.
But neither did he condemn her. He knew she had made some sorry choices; but also knew that her life was an unfinished story. So he offered her a fresh start: “Go now and leave your life of sin.”
Your life, too, is an unfinished story. When you’re ready to write the next chapter, he has a fresh page for you.
Let go of what’s gone.
