God is not ashamed to be called their God.
—Hebrews 11:16
God said, “Those who honor me I will honor” (1 Sm. 2:30). The patriarchs were far from faultless, but they took God at his word and were “still living by faith when they died” (Heb 11:13). They honored God by having faith in his promises; he honored them by being pleased to be called their God.
“My father,” said the young man across the desk from me, “didn’t say a word, but he was deeply hurt by what I had done. At that moment I knew he was ashamed of me. I vowed that I would never again do anything to cause him to be ashamed to be my father.”
It’s a high honor to know your dad is never ashamed to be known as your father; a higher honor to know your God is proud to be known as your Father.
Never do anything to cause God
to be ashamed to call you his child.
