Blessed are the peacemakers.
—Matthew 5:9
Rodney King’s name is etched in memory; his brutal beating by Los Angeles police in 1991 sparked one of the most violent race riots in US history.
Rodney was awarded $3.8 million, but within a few years was broke. He couldn’t beat the demons of drugs, alcohol, and domestic havoc.
On June 17, 2012, he was found at the bottom of his swimming pool—dead at 47.
Rodney made some poor choices, but made one appeal that was pure gold. Sensing the powder keg fury following the acquittal of the officers involved in his beating, he said, “Can’t we all just get along?”
Doesn’t seem like it, Rodney.
Nations can’t. Politicians can’t. Churches can’t.
But peace starts with one person. Be that person.
A better world begins with you.
