I AM has sent me to you.
—Exodus 3:14
When Moses asked God his name, he said it was “I AM”: “This is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation” (Exo. 3:15).
Here is the way poet Helen Mallicoat saw it …
I was regretting the past
and fearing the future.
Suddenly my Lord was speaking:
“My Name is I AM.”
When you live in the past
With all its mistakes and regrets,
it is hard. I am not there.
My Name is not I WAS.
“When you live in the future,
with its problems and fears,
it is hard. I am not there.
My Name is not I WILL BE.
“When you live in this moment,
it is not hard. I am here.
My Name is I AM!
God is in your here and now—not
I was or I will be, but I AM.
