The Sovereign Lord comes with power.
—Isaiah 40:10
The nation of Judah paid a high price for her sins.
We sometimes wonder if there is any hope for ours.
God dispatched Isaiah to remind Judah—and us—that this is his world and he is in control.
He brings down rulers and turns them into nothing (Isa. 40:23-24). Politicians don’t decide the ultimate destiny of nations. God does. He gives them their power and takes it away (Dan. 2:21).
As the late Paul Harvey once said, “It’s good in times like these to remember that there have always been times like these.”
What differentiates true discipleship from pretense
is unfaltering belief in the sovereignty of God.
