Be all the more eager to make
your calling and election sure.
—2 Peter 1:10
You know someone who blabs ad nauseam about her family, her job, her stuff.
She has an investment in those things so they’re at the top of her mind and on the tip of her tongue. You don’t share that investment, so her world ain’t the whole enchilada to you.
Things are important to you only when you have skin in the game.
In 2 Peter 1:4 the apostle lists three dazzling blessings:
1) great and precious promises;
2) sharing the divine nature;
3) escaping the corruption in the world.
To possess those blessings you have to invest in them; put some skin in the game.
The apostle said you do that by adding to your faith the qualities of goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly-kindness, and love.
That’s the price.
The reward of faith in action is
worth far more than the investment.
