Simon son of John, do you love me?
—John 21:17
Some wag chirped that a man’s friends like him and leave him alone, but his wife loves him and is always trying to improve him.
Jesus saw something special in Simon Peter. He had denied him, but Jesus knew there was more to Peter than a mistake made under pressure. So he was on his case. Do you love me, Simon? Do you truly love me? Do you love me more than anything?
Likewise, God sees something special in you. If you keep reading the Word with an honest and open mind you will see that he is on your case, prodding you to be more and do better—to be the best you can be so he can give you the best he has to give.
Success is achieved by repeated
attempts to do better.
