Our Father in heaven.
—Matthew 6:9
Most of us know The Lord’s Prayer by heart; a good thing, but putting us in danger of mouthing words without giving much thought to what we’re saying.
What are we saying when we pray, “Your will be done”?
We are saying we want God to do what he wants, not what we want. Do we really mean that?
What are we saying when we pray, “Give us … forgive us … deliver us”?
We are saying that we have nothing without Him; that we are nothing without Him; that we can do nothing without Him.
Words that should never be spoken lightly … but words that can be spoken boldly because of the first two words of the prayer—“Our Father.”
Prayer time is a father-and-child time.
