In love he predestined us to be adopted.
—Ephesians 1:5
You are an adopted child.
Eph. 1:5 says that God “planned, in his purpose of love, that we should be adopted as his own children” (JBP). “And this gave him great pleasure” (NLT).
According to Rom. 8:15 your adoption gives you the right to call God “Abba Father.” “Abba” is an Aramaic word best translated “Daddy.” It is a term that describes the intimate relationship a father has with his child, and the total trust a child has in his father.
Adoption has two sides: the loneliness of a child who needs a parent, and the loneliness of an adult who needs a child.
God couldn’t bear for you to be alone.
And he couldn’t bear to be without you.
God chose you. Loved you. Adopted you.
