I will come back and
take you to be with me.
—John 14:3
“I will be with you only a little longer,” Jesus told his friends.
They were like children playing with their toys when they see Mom and Dad put on their coats and head out the door. They have three questions. “Where are you going?” “Can we go with you?” “Who will stay with us?”
Jesus’ answers were confusing. “I am going back to my Father.” “You can’t go with me now. You can come later.” “The Father will send the Spirit to stay with you.”
The Word has given us a clearer view. Still, the same questions linger and the same answers remain.
“Where are you going?”
“I’m going back to my Father.”
“Can I go with you?”
“Not now. Later.”
“Who will stay with me?”
“The Holy Spirit will be with you.”
Be ready to go when he comes.
