The Lord knows those who are his.
—2 Timothy 2:19
Psalm 139 is breathtaking. “O Lord … you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways” (vv. 1-3).
Afraid of life’s dark times? Don’t be. “If I say, ‘Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,’ even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you” (vv. 11-12).
God’s every-moment-of-life care and concern is beyond us—“Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain” (v. 6). Full comprehension of it is beyond our grasp, but the thrill of it isn’t beyond the reach of our gratitude and praise.
Peace isn’t the absence of problems,
but the presence of God.
