By this all men will know that you are
my disciples, if you love one another.
—John 13:35
David Doubilet is arguably the greatest underwater photographer in the world. His stunningly beautiful work appears in publications worldwide.
Environmentalists castigate him for not publishing hard-edge photographs—polluted oceans, dirty beaches, dead fish.
But Doubilet believes the way to inspire people to take care of the environment is to show the beauty God has created, not the ugliness humans have caused.
Some Christians think the way to clean up spiritual pollution is to pounce on evil with shrill voice and harsh language.
Jesus disagrees. He said that discipleship would be best proved by love for one another. Your witness is most effective when people see that your religion causes you to treat others lovingly.
Love is the trademark of discipleship.
It’s as simple—and as difficult—as that.
