Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
—Psalm 136:1
The bookends of Israel’s forty-year desert trek were unrequested blessings.
The first was when they left Egypt and God gave them a dry-ground crossing of the Red Sea.
The second was forty years later when they left the desert and God gave them a dry-ground crossing across Jordan into the Promised Land.
They requested neither, but received both.
Have you received blessings you haven’t requested? You wouldn’t have lived to read this sentence if you hadn’t. You didn’t put in a request for oxygen in the past twenty-four hours did you? Or gravity to keep you earth-anchored?
A little thinking leads to
a lot of thanking.
