I wait for the Lord … and in his word I put my hope.
—Psalm 130:5
“Are we there yet?”
“How long ’til Christmas?”
Childhood impatience often spills over into adult life. The gap between beginning and end is too wide; the space between want and result too great; the interval between prayer and answer too long. So we get cranky and grow testy with God.
It may not seem like it, but God’s timing is perfect. Like those apostolic fishermen, you may have “worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything” (Lk. 5:5). Hang on! When the time is right he will fill your net.
“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord” (Ps. 27:14).
Don’t hang up if God doesn’t
answer on the first ring.
