Do not be overawed when a man grows rich.
—Psalm 49:16
Satan hasn’t encountered much resistance in enticing humans to focus on money—even conning us into using it as our standard of judgment. “What’s he worth?” is a question doesn’t require translation. You know exactly what it means—what is he worth in dollars-and-cents?
We live in a culture where status is based on money. We mistakenly size up people’s worth by their position, their income, their bank account, their stock portfolio, their house, their car.
The greatest tragedy is that our self-image is sometimes measured the same way. Back away from that. Don’t let Satan win this one.
Your worth is not measured by what
belongs to you, but by who you belong to.
