This day the Lord will hand you over to me.
—1 Samuel 17:46
If David had known that for thousands of years he would be praised as a hero for his skirmish with Goliath, he would have protested—because the way he saw it, it wasn’t David vs. Goliath, but God vs. Goliath.
Who is the giant in your life? Anger? Resentment? Envy? Lust? A bad habit? A critical spirit? A negative attitude? A nasty temper? An out-of-control tongue? Fear?
Identify your giant. Then attack it the same way David did: “I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty” (1 Samuel 17:45). When you square off against your giant, remember that you have a past with God—he has been with you in previous battles. And he will be with you now.
You can’t conquer what you refuse to confront.
